Samantha Barks
Biography
Samantha Barks is a British actress and singer who first drew notice on the BBC talent series I'd Do Anything in 2008, finishing third. She put out three albums: Looking in Your Eyes, Samantha Barks and Into the Unknown. Her screen debut came as Éponine in Les Misérables (2012), earning the Empire honor for Best Female Newcomer, plus a National Board of Review award that the whole cast shared. She appeared with Jonathan Bailey in the Disney Channel show Groove High from 2012 to 2013, and reunited with him for a London revival of The Last Five Years. In 2018, she was the first to play Vivian Ward in the Broadway staging of Pretty Woman: The Musical. From 2021 to 2024, she played Elsa in the West End production of Frozen. Her films include The Christmas Candle (2013), Bitter Harvest (2017) and Interlude in Prague (2017).

Barks was cast as Éponine in the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary concert at the O2 Arena after Cameron Mackintosh saw her play the role on her opening night at the Queen's Theatre.
A first
Barks made her Broadway debut originating the role of Vivian, the part Julia Roberts played in the film, in Pretty Woman: The Musical in 2018.
A role that slipped away
Barks filmed the role of Baba Yaga, an angelic woman who becomes an evil witch, in Dracula Untold, but her scenes were cut from the released film.

At age 16, Barks relocated to London on her own to finish her A levels at the Arts Educational School (ArtsEd) in Chiswick.
