Ruth Ford
Biography
Ruth Ford was an American actress and model. She first posed for photographers such as Cecil Beaton, Man Ray and Carl Van Vechten, then joined Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre before her screen career began. Born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and a graduate of the University of Mississippi, she appeared in Welles's film Too Much Johnson, footage of which was considered lost until its rediscovery. Welles's assistance helped her land contracts with Columbia Pictures and Warner Bros. She made her Broadway debut in The Shoemaker's Holiday in 1938, and among her later stage performances she starred in Poor Murderer in 1976. She also appeared in Hollywood films and died in New York City in 2009.
