Roy Edward Disney
Biography
Roy Edward Disney was an American media executive and filmmaker who worked for decades at the Walt Disney Company, the studio founded by his father, Roy O. Disney, and his uncle, Walt Disney. Born in Los Angeles, he earned a degree at Pomona College in 1951 and joined the studio as an assistant director and producer on the True-Life Adventures films, moving onto the company's board in 1967. He resigned as an executive in 1977, helped organize the ouster of Ron Miller in 1984, and then returned as vice chairman and took charge of its animation department, which produced the films of the Disney Renaissance. He later led a second campaign that ended with Michael Eisner's resignation, after which he served as a consultant and director emeritus. His pet project was Fantasia 2000, and he produced the documentary Morning Light (2008) and executive produced The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit (1998).
