Ronee Blakley

Ronee Blakley is an American singer-songwriter, composer and filmmaker who also works as an actress, producer and director. Born in Nampa, Idaho, she began as a recording artist: Elektra Records issued her first album in 1972, and Warner Bros. put out a second, Welcome, in 1975. That year she played the country star Barbara Jean in Robert Altman's Nashville (1975); the part earned her a Best Supporting Actress prize from the National Board of Review plus an Academy Award nomination, and also Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy nominations. She toured with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue and sang on Broadway in Pump Boys and Dinettes in 1982. Her film work includes The Driver (1978) and Marge Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), and in 1985 she wrote, produced, directed and starred in the music docudrama I Played It for You.
