Ron Taylor

Did you know?!

1. Big break

Taylor gave voice to Audrey II, the talking killer plant, in the 1982 original off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors. Four increasingly large puppets were operated by Martin P. Robinson, while Taylor voiced the role from a box at the rear of the stage.

2. Behind the award

Taylor's performance earned him the Outstanding Special Effects prize at the 1983 Drama Desk Awards, an award he shared with Robinson.

3. Behind the camera

Taylor conceived It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues after playing bluesman Rufus Payne in a 1987 Denver production of Lost Highway, then pitched the idea to director Randal Myler, who accepted it in 1994.

4. Behind the camera

Taylor's revue started as a 45-minute show at 25 local high schools. A positive reception led to a two-hour version with 50 songs and three added cast members, performed at the Denver Center.

5. Getting ready for a role

After playing a singer on L.A. Law in 1991, Taylor was invited to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before real games, including a July 1, 1991 Orioles-Tigers baseball game.
