Robert Broyles
Biography
Robert Broyles was an American character actor who also worked as a drama teacher, theater director and writer. Born in Sparta, Tennessee, and raised in White County, he served in the U.S. Navy before earning a degree from Ohio State University in 1960. He worked as a drama coach in Hollywood from 1963 to 1967 and made his television debut on Bonanza in 1964. He appeared repeatedly on series such as My Three Sons, The Mod Squad and Family Affair, and moved into features, among them Norma Rae (1979), Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Poltergeist. He wrote plays and a novel, directed for the stage, and in 1974 was voted best actor and best director in Los Angeles. His final role was on the short-lived show Bette in 2000. He died in 2011.
