Biography

Rita Zohar is an Israeli actress who has worked on stage, film and television in Israel and the United States. Born in Balta, Ukraine, she started at the Cameri Theatre, acting in Yiddish, then moved to the United States in the 1980s and took guest roles on Quincy M.E., St. Elsewhere and Cagney and Lacey. Early films include Lady in White (1988), Daniel (1983), Amadeus (1984) and The Deliberate Stranger (1986). She returned to Israel in 1990 to play a stage actress in the drama Laura Adler's Last Love Affair, winning a best actress award from the Israeli Film Academy. Supporting parts followed in Final Analysis (1992) and Waterworld (1995) and in the series ER and Any Day Now. In 2009 she starred in the Israeli drama Mrs. Moskowitz and the Cats, taking the Jerusalem Film Festival's best actress prize and an Ophir Award nomination, and she played Bessie in Scarlett Johansson's Eleanor the Great (2025).
