Richard Morant

Richard Morant, born in Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, was an English actor. He trained in speech and drama at the Central School before joining the Prospect Theatre Company. He toured with Ian McKellen in productions of Richard II, Edward II and Twelfth Night. He first became known to television viewers as Flashman in the BBC's Tom Brown's Schooldays (1971). Later he had a continuing part as Dr Dwight Enys in the BBC's Poldark (1975). His television credits also included BBC adaptations of Woodstock (1973), as Charles II, and The Talisman (1980), as Conrade of Montserrat, as well as Maximilien Robespierre in The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982). He played Mervyn Bunter in the BBC's 1987 Dorothy L. Sayers mysteries. His films included Mahler (1974) and The Company of Wolves (1984). On stage he took a starring role in Private Lives, by Noël Coward, at the Theatre Royal in Bath in 1984. He died in 2011.
