Richard Hurndall
Biography
Richard Hurndall was an English actor, born in Darlington, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and appeared in plays at Stratford-upon-Avon. He spent several years with BBC Radio Drama from 1949 to 1952, later portraying Sherlock Holmes in a 1959 version of The Sign of Four and remaining active in radio until about 1980. On television he appeared in The Avengers, Blake's 7, The Persuaders!, Whodunnit! and Bergerac, and he played Mackelson in Spindoe and Jason Fowler in The Power Game. His film credits included Zeppelin (1971), I, Monster (1971), Some Girls Do (1969), Royal Flash (1975) and Crossed Swords (1977). He was best known for taking over the part of the First Doctor from William Hartnell in the anniversary special Doctor Who: The Five Doctors (1983). Hurndall died in 1984.
