Richard Dawson
Biography
Richard Dawson was an English and American actor and game-show host who started out in Britain as a stand-up comedian billed as Dickie Dawson, appearing on BBC television and radio in the mid-1950s. Born in Gosport, Hampshire, he moved to the United States in 1961 and hosted a late-night talk show on a Los Angeles station before guest spots on The Jack Benny Program and The Dick Van Dyke Show. A small part in King Rat (1965) preceded his fame as Corporal Peter Newkirk in Hogan's Heroes, which he played from 1965 to 1971; Munster, Go Home! (1966) and The Devil's Brigade (1968) followed. He was a regular panelist on Match Game from 1973 and the original host of Family Feud from 1976 to 1985, returning in 1994 and 1995, and earned rave reviews as the game-show host Damon Killian in The Running Man (1987). He narrated TV's Funniest Game Shows in 2000.
