Renee Godfrey
Biography
Renee Godfrey was an American stage and screen actress and singer. Born in New York in 1919, she started modeling at age 11 and posed for artists and photographers, appearing in national advertisements before a film executive spotted her image on a billboard. That led to motion pictures, and she debuted in Sam Wood's Kitty Foyle (1940) under the name Renee Haal. RKO signed her to a long-term contract in 1942 after her work in Unexpected Uncle, and she began using the name Renee Godfrey in Up in Arms (1944). She was known for small roles, including Vivian Vedder in Terror by Night (1946). She also played Mrs. Stebbins in Inherit the Wind (1960), a Stanley Kramer film. Her other credits included Can-Can (1960) and Tender Is the Night, and television shows such as Hazel, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, and The Donna Reed Show.
