About the name
Ole Anderson, a booker for Georgia Championship Wrestling, suggested the ring name Randy Savage because he felt Poffo did not fit a man who wrestled like a savage.
Getting ready for a role
Savage and Steamboat rehearsed every spot of their match before WrestleMania, since Savage was a stickler for detail. Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestling Observer both named it 1987's Match of the Year.
A first
Savage captured his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship at World War 3 on November 26, winning a 60-man battle royal held in three rings, the first such match ever.
Beyond film
Savage released a debut rap album in 2003 called Be a Man, which included a tribute to Curt Hennig and a diss track aimed at Hulk Hogan.
