Biography

Born in Houston, Peter Masterson was an American performer who branched into directing, producing, and writing. He first appeared on Broadway in 1967 as Lee Harvey Oswald in The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald. His acting work stretched across the mid-1960s into the mid-1980s, with film roles in Ambush Bay (1966), Von Richthofen and Brown (1971), The Exorcist (1973), Man on a Swing (1974), The Stepford Wives (1975), and Gardens of Stone (1987). He later focused mostly on directing and producing, collaborating with Larry L. King on the books for the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1978) and its sequel The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public (1994). He produced the 1980 ABC television movie City in Fear and directed The Trip to Bountiful (1985), which earned Geraldine Page the Academy Award for Best Actress. Other directing credits included Full Moon in Blue Water (1988) and Whiskey School (2005).
