Peter Dennis
Biography
Peter Dennis was an English actor who worked in film, television, theater and voice roles on both sides of the Atlantic. Born in Dorking, Surrey, he served in the British Army before a performance of Look Back in Anger prompted him to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1965. He played leading parts at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, performed at the Everyman and Repertory theaters in Liverpool, and worked in London's West End, becoming a regular presence on British television in shows such as The Avengers. His solo stage piece Bother! The Brain of Pooh, first performed in 1976, drew on the writing of A. A. Milne, and he toured it for more than thirty years, winning a Drama-Logue Award and a Los Angeles Theatre Award. His screen credits included Shrek (2001) and Sideways (2004), the latter earning him a Screen Actors Guild Award for ensemble work.
