Biography

Paul Hagen was a Danish actor who ranked among Denmark's most famous actors after the Second World War. Born in Copenhagen in 1920, he trained at Frederiksberg's theater school and made his stage debut in 1944 in Livet er jo dejligt at Riddersalen, completing his education as an actor the following year. He worked at Aarhus theater until 1951 and gained wider fame in 1953 with the song Lille Lise let-på-tråd, written for Fiffer Revyen. His film debut came in 1952 with Kærlighedsdoktoren, and he went on to work in 118 movies, plus television series, usually as the hero's friend or a bright sidekick. He had much success in the Støver, Soldaterkammerater and Sengekants film series, and among his notable appearances were Martha (1967) and Ballade på Christianshavn (1971). On television he was famous as the animal shop clerk Clausen in Huset på Christianshavn (1970), and he left the theater in 1998 and died in 2003.
