Dirch Passer

Biography

Dirch Passer was a Danish actor and comedian. Born in Østerbro, Copenhagen, in 1926, he trained for a seafaring life at his father's insistence, then took assorted jobs before making his stage debut in 1946 with Six Comrades at Riddersalen. He studied at De Frederiksbergske Teatres elevskole and, after finishing in 1948, played many small parts in Danish theaters. His film debut came as an extra in Lucky Journey (1947), and he appeared with Ove Sprogøe in several 1950s pictures. He became famous in 1953 with Ved Kongelunden..., which showed Danish audiences his comedic ability. Well-received films included Charles' Aunt (1959), Baronessen fra benzintanken (1960), Summer in Tyrol (1964), Mig og min lillebror (1967), and the Mafia films. From 1967 to 1974 he performed at Cirkusrevyen på Bakken, where his sketches contributed to its greatest success. His final film was Fængslende feriedage in 1978, and he acted in the Tivolirevy until his death in 1980.
