Biography

Pat Ashton was an English actress whose cockney, blonde persona was best remembered from the sitcom spin-offs On the Buses (1971) and Mutiny on the Buses (1972). Born in Wood Green, north London, she learned singing and tap dancing as a child and performed in summer season shows at seaside resorts in the 1950s. Her first television break came when she played Fanny Cornforth alongside Oliver Reed in Ken Russell's Danté's Inferno (1967), which led to a small role in Russell's The Devils (1971). In 1970 she was an understudy to Barbara Windsor in Sing a Rude Song, the Ned Sherrin-produced musical, and later took the lead. Her television credits included The Benny Hill Show, Don't Drink the Water, Only When I Laugh and The Gaffer. On stage she appeared in Stepping Out.
