Olga San Juan
Biography
Olga San Juan was an American actress and comedian who appeared in Hollywood musicals during the 1940s. Born in Brooklyn, she was discovered at the Copacabana and signed by Paramount Pictures in 1943. In Blue Skies (1946) she danced to the song Heat Wave alongside Bing Crosby, and in Variety Girl (1947) she played Amber La Vonne, an aspiring actress; critics Charles Higham and Joel Greenberg called her restaurant scene the film's funniest. She usually played Latina entertainers or romantic interests and was nicknamed the Puerto Rican Pepper Pot. She made no more Hollywood films after 1949. In 1951 she starred on Broadway in Paint Your Wagon as Jennifer Rumson, and she earned a Donaldson Award for that role plus a Screen Actors Guild Latino Legacy Award.
