Nigel Havers

Nigel Havers, born in London in 1951, is an English actor and presenter whose screen career began in 1975 with an appearance in Upstairs, Downstairs and a role in the daytime series Crown Court. His first major success came in the leading role of a BBC adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby (1977), and his portrayal of Lord Andrew Lindsay in Chariots of Fire (1981) earned him a BAFTA nomination in the supporting actor category. He went on to star in A Passage to India (1984), Empire of the Sun (1987) and Farewell to the King (1989). On television he co-starred in the sitcom Don't Wait Up from 1983 to 1990, appeared in Sleepers (1991), Brothers & Sisters (2009) and Coronation Street as Lewis Archer, and wrote an autobiography, Playing with Fire, published in 2006. He was educated at Arts Educational School.
