Nate Mendel
Biography
Nate Mendel is an American musician best known as the bass guitarist for Foo Fighters and a former member of Sunny Day Real Estate. Born and raised in Richland, Washington, he took up the violin first, then switched to bass at 13 after joining a rock band, mostly teaching himself through hardcore punk. He started out in the hardcore group Diddly Squat, which recorded a single and toured nationally, then played in Brotherhood and Christ on a Crutch after moving to Seattle. In 1992 he formed Sunny Day Real Estate, and late in 1994 Dave Grohl recruited him for Foo Fighters, where he has appeared on every album since The Colour and the Shape and is the longest-serving member after Grohl. He also formed The Fire Theft, released a solo album under the name Lieutenant, and appeared in the indie film Our Burden Is Light.
