Moore Marriott
Biography
Moore Marriott was an English character actor who became best known for the comedy films he made with Will Hay. Born in 1885, he made his stage debut at age five and later turned to films, although he had intended to train as an architect. He made many screen appearances from 1912, and was often cast as old men while still fairly young. His first work with Hay was in Dandy Dick (1935), and from 1936 to 1940 he was a significant supporting player in Hay's films, playing the elderly Jeremiah Harbottle. That character had originated in Hay's stage and radio sketches in the 1920s. Marriott appeared in Windbag the Sailor (1936) and Oh, Mr. Porter! (1937), and after the partnership ended he continued in similar roles with Graham Moffatt in Back-Room Boy (1942) and I Thank You (1941). Later credits included Green for Danger (1946) and Millions Like Us (1943). He died in 1949.
