Mili Avital
Biography
Mili Avital is an Israeli actress whose career began in Israel on stage and screen. Born in Jerusalem and raised in Tel Aviv and Ra'anana, she studied theater at the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts and acted at the Cameri Theater of Tel Aviv while still a student. In 1991 she received Israel's Academy Award in the supporting actress category. She went to New York City in 1993 for acting studies, trained at Circle in the Square Theatre School, and was noticed by an agent during her restaurant work. That led to the female lead in Stargate (1994), which brought her a Sci-fi Universe award. Her films include Dead Man, Kissing a Fool, Polish Wedding and The Human Stain (2003). On television she played Scheherazade in Arabian Nights and appeared in Damages and Prisoners of War. She directed the short documentary I Think Myself I Am All the Time Younger, shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2004.

Big break
In 1993, Avital came to New York City for acting studies at the Circle in the Square Theatre School. An agent spotted her waitressing the next year, and she was cast right away as the female lead in Stargate, a 1994 science fiction film.
Behind the camera
Avital took on directing, co-writing and co-producing duties for Next Stop - A Comedy of Misconnections, which had a brief run in Los Angeles and Palo-Alto before reaching the Habima National Theater in Israel in 2024, the only English-language play ever staged there.
First role
During her senior year at the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts, Avital starred in Christopher Hampton's Dangerous Liaisons at The Cameri Theater of Tel-Aviv.
Behind the camera
For the Theater for the Youth, Avital and Shiri Artzi co-wrote "I Hear You" in 2023, with the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel as co-producer. The work earned Play of the Year and Best Writers honors in 2024.
