Mickey Hargitay
Biography
Born in Budapest, Mickey Hargitay moved to the United States at age 21 and built a career as a bodybuilder, winning the Mr. Universe title in 1955 and helping to popularize physical fitness in America. His physique led to work as a pin-up in fitness magazines, and Mae West recruited him for her muscleman revue. He entered films when Jayne Mansfield insisted he be cast in Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957). Hargitay later appeared in The Loves of Hercules, Promises! Promises! (1963), and Primitive Love, all co-starring Jayne Mansfield, and he starred without her in Bloody Pit of Horror in 1965. He also worked in many Italian productions and in Hungarian director György Szomjas's 1988 film Mr. Universe. In 2003 he guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, playing a witness to a violent crime. He died in 2006.
