Biography

Known on screen as Michael Cole, Sean Michael Coulthard is an American professional wrestling commentator who has been signed to WWE since 1997 and served as its vice president of announcing from 2020 to 2024. Born in Syracuse, New York, he earned a broadcast journalism degree from Syracuse University in 1988 and began his media career as a journalist for CBS Radio before the WWF brought him aboard. He started with voice-overs and hosting LiveWire, then handled backstage interviews, and by December 1998 was calling Raw play-by-play. Nearly a decade as the voice of SmackDown followed before he moved to Raw in 2008. A 2010 heel turn led to a long feud with Jerry Lawler that included a match at WrestleMania XXVII, and he turned face soon afterward. His honors include four Slammy Awards, and he has voiced WWE video games and Call of Duty.
