Max Julien

Max Julien worked as an American actor, sculptor, and clothes designer, gaining his widest recognition for playing Goldie in the blaxploitation film The Mack (1973). Born in Washington, DC, he began on the New York stage, appearing Off-Broadway and in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare-In-The-Park. In Hollywood he landed co-starring roles opposite Jack Nicholson in Psych-Out (1968) and Candice Bergen in the Columbia box-office hit Getting Straight (1970). While in Rome, he wrote and directed the documentary Trestevre, then wrote the screenplay for Cleopatra Jones and co-produced the Warner Brothers blaxploitation classic, starring Tamara Dobson as a narcotics agent skilled in martial arts and firearms. He declined to appear in the sequel, which instead credited its story and script as based on characters he created. His subsequent screen work included How to Be a Player (1997) and guest roles on series such as The Mod Squad, The Bold Ones: The Protectors, and One on One.
