Matteo Simoni
Biography
Matteo Simoni is a Belgian actor who rose to prominence as one of the most popular performers of his generation, largely through his lead part in the comedy series Safety First. After drama school he worked with theater companies including the Gent National Theater. In 2008 he and fellow students set up FC Bergman; its play Homecoming earned the TAZ-Jong Theater Award in 2009, and the follow-up, Strolling Down the Champs-Elysées, was picked for the Dutch Theater Festival in 2010. The company became known as one of Belgium's most innovative. On screen he took the lead in Marina (2013), a biopic directed by Stijn Coninx, portraying the Belgian-Italian singer Rocco Granata and learning Italian for the role. In 2015 he completed three films, and he also acted in the TV series Callboys.
