Biography

Mariclare Costello was an American actress and a lifetime member of The Actors Studio. Born in Peoria, Illinois, she earned acting honors while studying at Clarke College and Catholic University's Graduate School of Drama and started out on the stage, appearing in the off-Broadway production The Hostage and then in Broadway plays that included After The Fall, The Changeling, Tartuffe, The Country Wife, Lovers and Other Strangers and Harvey, several of them in the 1960s. Her 1971 cult horror movie Let's Scare Jessica to Death cast her as a hippie-vampire. Her best known television part was Rosemary Hunter Fordwick in The Waltons, which she played from 1972 to 1977.
