Luke James

Biography

Luke James is an American actor, singer and songwriter. Raised in New Orleans, he formed the R&B duo Luke and Q in 2004, singing backing vocals for Tyrese, and the pair signed with J Records and released the 2006 single My Turn, which did not chart. After the duo split in 2010, he wrote songs for Chris Brown, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber and signed with Danja's N.A.R.S. label, which partnered with Island Records. The mixtapes #Luke (2011) and Whispers in the Dark (2012) led to his self-titled debut album in 2014, whose single I Want You earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. His second album, to feel love/d (2020), earned a nomination for Best R&B Album. On screen he played Johnny Gill in the 2017 BET miniseries The New Edition Story and appeared in Little (2019), Star, Insecure and The Chi in 2020.
