Louie Anderson
Biography
Louie Anderson was an American stand-up comedian who also worked as an actor, author and game show host. Raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he made his television debut in 1984 on Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians Special and appeared on The Tonight Show later that year. Small film parts followed, including a taxi driver in Cloak and Dagger, a turn in the singing-telegram scene of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and roles in Coming to America (1988) and The Wrong Guys (1988). He created the animated series Life with Louie, which won two Daytime Emmy Awards, and starred in his own CBS sitcom, The Louie Show. He took over as host of Family Feud in 1999 and left the show in 2002. From 2016 to 2019 he played Christine Baskets on the FX comedy Baskets, receiving three Primetime Emmy nominations and winning in 2016. His later credits included the stand-up special Louie Anderson: Big Baby Boomer (2012).

A role that slipped away
Anderson was cast as Lou Appleton in the pilot of Perfect Strangers, but when ABC picked up the show he was replaced by Mark Linn-Baker because producers felt his chemistry with Bronson Pinchot was not right.
Big break
Producers wanted a white actor for Coming To America, which had an otherwise African-American cast, so Murphy asked that Anderson be hired and called his friend "the funniest white guy around".

Anderson made his first movie appearance in Cloak and Dagger as taxi driver #2, a small role with a single line, alongside Dabney Coleman.
