Leonora Ruffo
Biography
Leonora Ruffo was an Italian leading lady of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Rome as Bruna Bovi, she was noted as a young gymnast, and that ability led to her being discovered for the screen by director Pietro Francisci in 1952. She was mostly cast as eye candy in sword-and-sandal epics and spaghetti westerns, with a few exceptions. She played the title role of Balkis in The Queen of Sheba (1952), opposite Gino Cervi as King Solomon, and took the part of Sandra Rubini in Federico Fellini's I Vitelloni (1953), arguably her best performance. She also appeared in horror films, including Goliath and the Vampires (1961) as Gordon Scott's girlfriend, facing faceless robots and vampires, and Mario Bava's Hercules in the Haunted World (1961), where a demon played by Christopher Lee controlled her character. Her movie career had ended by 1961, and she gave up acting as the 1960s came to a close. She died in 2007.
