Lawrence Michael Levine
Biography
Lawrence Michael Levine, born in 1976, works as an actor, writer, and filmmaker. He is best known for writing and directing Wild Canaries, Black Bear, and Gabi on the Roof in July. His debut feature, Territory, arrived in 2005, and he wrote, produced, and directed it from his own stage play. He wrote and directed two shorts in 2009, Fat Friend and The Empress. Gabi on the Roof in July, a 2010 romantic comedy drama, drew a positive critical response, with Eric Kohn of Indiewire calling it a lightly amusing comedy. In Wild Canaries, a 2014 mystery comedy, Levine took the lead as well as writing and directing. The Village Voice compared that film to a classic screwball comedy. Black Bear features Sarah Gadon, Christopher Abbott, and Aubrey Plaza. His acting work includes V/H/S/2 (2013), Richard's Wedding, Takal's Green, All the Light in the Sky, and the anthology series Easy.
