Biography

Lauryn Hill is an American rapper, singer and songwriter who was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and started out as a teenage actress. She played Kira Johnson on As the World Turns in 1991 and took a role in Steven Soderbergh's King of the Hill (1993) before earning acclaim in the 1993 film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, playing Rita Watson. She then became the frontwoman of the Fugees, whose album The Score (1996) earned the Best Rap Album Grammy. Her solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), topped the Billboard 200 and made her the first rapper to receive the Album of the Year Grammy. She released the live album MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 (2002) and has written and produced for artists including Aretha Franklin and Santana. Her honors include eight Grammy Awards.
