Jonathan Goldsmith
Biography
Jonathan Goldsmith is an American character actor who started out on the New York stage before moving into film and television. Born in the Bronx in 1938 and a Boston University graduate, he moved to California in 1966 and worked steadily in Westerns, appearing as the villain shot by John Wayne in The Shootist (1976). He racked up more than 350 television appearances, among them a 1964 Perry Mason episode and 17 episodes of Dallas, plus guest spots on series such as Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Hawaii Five-O. Early in his career he acted under the name Jonathan Lippe before switching back to his birth name. He taught theater at Adelphi University from 1999 to 2004, and from 2006 to 2016 played The Most Interesting Man in the World in Dos Equis commercials, a campaign credited with lifting the brand's US sales.
