John Putch
Biography
John Putch, an American actor and filmmaker, began acting at age five with The Totem Pole Playhouse, a summer theater company run by his father. Born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he later did a guest spot on All in the Family that led producer Norman Lear to cast him as Bob Morton on One Day at a Time, a part he played in 14 episodes from 1976 to 1983. He appeared as Sean Brody in Jaws 3-D (1983), and his film credits also include The Sure Thing (1985), Welcome to 18 (1986), Curfew (1989) and Men at Work (1990). On television he guested on Seinfeld, Star Trek: The Next Generation and others. In 1985 he directed the short Waiting to Act, then moved toward directing in the mid-1990s, with episodes of Scrubs, Ugly Betty and My Name Is Earl, and later the Route 30 comedy trilogy.
