John Matuszak

John Matuszak was an American football defensive end who later became an actor. Raised in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, he played college football at the University of Tampa and was an All-American in 1972. The Houston Oilers took him with the first overall pick of the 1973 NFL draft, and after spells with the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins he signed with the Oakland Raiders, winning two Super Bowls before retiring. He also took ninth place at the 1978 World's Strongest Man competition. In the 1980s he moved into acting, usually cast as an athlete or a large, mild-mannered figure. His first major film role was in North Dallas Forty (1979), and he went on to appear in Caveman (1981), The Ice Pirates (1984), The Goonies (1985) as the deformed Sloth, and One Crazy Summer (1986). He also guested on many television shows and published an autobiography, Cruisin' with the Tooz, in 1987.
