John Boswall
Biography
John Boswall was a British actor whose screen career spanned several decades. Born in Oxfordshire, he studied at the University of Oxford and spent part of the Second World War in Burma before turning to acting. On television he appeared in shows including Edward the Seventh, The Onedin Line, EastEnders, Lovejoy and Poldark (1996). His best known film role was Emmanuel Goldstein in Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984), and he also played Wyvern in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006). Other films included 3 Men and a Little Lady (1990), The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999) and Ladies in Lavender (2004). On stage he worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre, and appeared at the Bristol Old Vic. He died in 2011.
