John Abineri

John Abineri was an English actor, born in London in 1928 and trained at the Old Vic Theatre School. Fluent in several languages, among them German, Russian and French, he was frequently cast as characters of different nationalities. He was best known for his television work, playing Hubert Goss in Survivors and Herne the Hunter in Robin of Sherwood, and appearing four times in Doctor Who, as well as in Blake's 7, The Moon Stallion, Red Dwarf and a 1989 adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days. His role as Chingachgook in the television versions of Last of the Mohicans and Hawkeye, the Pathfinder earned him an Emmy nomination. His film credits included Funeral in Berlin (1966), The McKenzie Break (1970), Pope Joan (1972), The Godfather Part III (1990) and Giorgino (1994). He died in 2000.
