Jo Brand
Biography
Jo Brand is an English comedian and presenter who acts and writes. Born in 1957 and raised in Hastings, East Sussex, she spent ten years as a psychiatric nurse before joining London's alternative comedy clubs in the mid-1980s, first using the stage name Sea Monster and appearing on Saturday Live. She became a resident panellist on The Brain Drain in 1993 and starred in Channel 4's Jo Brand Through the Cakehole, while she was a regular guest on QI and Have I Got News for You. She helped create, write and star in the BBC Four sitcom Getting On, winning a 2011 BAFTA for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Role. Her screen work includes Horrid Henry: The Movie (2011) and The More You Ignore Me (2018), and she presented An Extra Slice from 2014 to 2025. In 2003 The Observer listed her among the 50 funniest acts in British comedy.
