Jack Shepherd

Jack Shepherd was an English actor, playwright and theater director. After studying fine art at Durham University and training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, he joined the Royal Court Theatre in 1965 and stayed until 1969. He became known on television for the title roles in Bill Brand, Trevor Griffiths's political drama from 1976, and in Wycliffe, the detective show he led from 1993 to 1998. His screen credits included The Golden Compass (2007) and Wonderland (1999), and he played Renfield in Count Dracula (1977). In 1983 he created the part of Richard Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross and took a Society of West End Theatre prize for his work in a new play. He was nominated for a British Academy Television Award in 1977. He also wrote plays such as In Lambeth and Holding Fire! and directed at Shakespeare's Globe.
