Plot summary
Abbie and Robert are best friends in California. Abbie's boyfriend Kevin has ended their relationship, and after a night of heavy drinking with Robert she learns she is pregnant. She asks Robert whether he wants to be the baby's father, and he is adamant that he will be a father in all the responsibilities the role carries. Five years after their son Sam is born, Abbie and Robert share a home and raise him, sleeping in separate bedrooms. They disagree about how much to tell Sam about their arrangement, including how to explain that Robert is gay. Both are single, and Robert's priority is Sam's well-being.
