Imogen Stubbs
Biography
Imogen Stubbs, born in Rothbury, Northumberland, is an English actress and writer who trained at RADA after taking a degree at Exeter College, Oxford. Her first film was Privileged (1982), followed by A Summer Story (1988), and in the 1980s she built a stage career with the Royal Shakespeare Company, playing Desdemona in Othello under Trevor Nunn. Further theater work includes Saint Joan at the Strand Theatre, Heartbreak House at the Haymarket and A Streetcar Named Desire in London in 1997. On television she played Ursula Brangwen in a BBC adaptation of The Rainbow in 1988 and took the title role in Anna Lee in 1993 and 1994, while her films include Lucy Steele in Sense and Sensibility (1995). We Happy Few, her first play, was staged in 2004 at the Gielgud Theatre, and in 2008 she became a contributing editor and fiction writer at Reader's Digest.

Early training
Stubbs finished her training at RADA alongside Jane Horrocks and Iain Glen, sharing the same class, and the academy later made her an Associate Member.
First role
Stubbs's first professional work came while she was still at RADA, playing Sally Bowles in Cabaret at the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.
Behind the camera
Stubbs wrote the play We Happy Few, which opened at the Gielgud Theatre in London in July 2004 with Trevor Nunn directing and Juliet Stevenson and Marcia Warren starring.
A change of course
In September 2008, Reader's Digest announced that Stubbs had come aboard as a contributing editor, and she also wrote adventure stories for the magazine.
