Greta Gynt
Biography
Greta Gynt was a dancer and actress from Norway who became a leading lady of British cinema. Born in Oslo, she moved to Britain as a child and began dancing lessons young, later performing at the Chat Noir shows in Oslo. Following the Swedish film The Song to Her (1934), she returned to Britain and took leading roles in minor films through the 1930s and early 1940s. She became best known for The Dark Eyes of London (1939), as a resistance leader in Tomorrow We Live (1942), as Elsie Silver in Mr. Emmanuel (1944), as a loyal wife in Take My Life (1947) and as a murderess in Dear Murderer (1947). Rank tried to promote her as a British Jean Harlow, and MGM brought her to Hollywood for Soldiers Three (1951). She later appeared on television, in The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Invisible Man, and her final film was The Runaway.
