Greg Davies
Biography
Greg Davies is a British comedian, actor, host and writer who was born in St Asaph and grew up in Wem. He studied drama and English at Brunel University, graduated in 1990, and spent 13 years as a secondary school drama teacher before starting stand-up on the club circuit in 2005. His breakthrough role was the college head Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners, which he reprised in The Inbetweeners Movie (2011) and The Inbetweeners 2 (2014). He received a BAFTA Television Award nomination in 2013 for Cuckoo. He created and starred in Man Down, hosts Taskmaster, and created and stars in The Cleaner. He took over as host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks in 2021 and played King Hydroflax in The Husbands of River Song (2015). His debut solo hour, Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog, was nominated at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe for a Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award, and You Magnificent Beast became a Netflix special in 2018.

Greg Davies spent 13 years teaching drama at secondary schools, including Langley Academy, Orleans Park School, and Sandhurst School, before starting his comedy career. His stand-up routines often discuss his experiences during that time.
Behind the camera
Davies both wrote and acted in Man Down, a Channel 4 sitcom that ran from 2013 to 2017. At Sandhurst School, where he had taught drama, the same classroom was sometimes used for filming.
