Grant Williams

Biography

Born in New York City, Grant Williams was an American actor who worked in film, theater, and television. Following Air Force service, he trained with Lee Strasberg, and Rosalind Russell selected him for a summer program at the Barter Theatre in Virginia. A talent scout spotted him on Kraft Television Theater in 1954, and Universal signed him in March 1955, giving him a heavy role in Red Sundown (1956). He played Scott Carey in The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), a Hugo Award-winning science fiction film that earned good reviews, but his film roles stayed lackluster. After Universal dropped his contract in 1959, he signed with Warner Brothers and played private detective Greg MacKenzie on Hawaiian Eye from 1960 through 1963. Later credits included the psychopathic killer in The Couch (1962), guest roles on Perry Mason and The Outer Limits, and Doomsday Machine (1972), his final released film. He later opened a drama school in West Hollywood.

Williams's last acting work for the screen was Brain of Blood (1972), since Doomsday Machine, his last released film appearance, had actually been shot in 1967.

In 1983, Williams made his final TV appearance on Family Feud. Competing alongside other former Hawaiian Eye cast members, they were defeated by former cast members of Lost In Space.
