A role that slipped away
By spring of 1953, Paddy Chayevsky had written a new Philco Playhouse script called "Marty", and it included a part made just for Chaney. She was told to travel to New York so she could approve the script.
About the name
Once she was done at the school, Chaney adopted the name Frances Chaney, since she thought producers would hire her more readily under it than under her Russian name.
A change of course
During World War II, Chaney gave up high-paying radio roles to appear on Armed Forces Radio Service programs, working steadily on the Assignment Home series and preferring it over other shows.
