Edward Pawley
Biography
Edward Pawley was an American actor who worked in theater, film, and radio. Born in Kansas City in 1901, he went to New York City in 1920 hoping for a stage career and made his Broadway debut in 1923 in The Shame Woman. He starred in plays such as Elmer Gantry, Two Seconds, and The Willow and I, and his performance as John Allen in Two Seconds drew the attention of Warner Brothers. He went to Hollywood in 1932 and appeared in more than 50 movies over ten years, often as a bad guy in gangster, horror, comedy, and Western films. His credits included G Men (1935), The Oklahoma Kid (1939), and Each Dawn I Die (1939). He returned to Broadway in 1942 and then worked extensively in radio, most notably as Steve Wilson on Big Town, a role he played from 1943 until he left the show in 1951. He died in 1988.
