David Hurst

David Hurst was a German actor who worked in British and American theater, film, and television. Born in Berlin in 1926, he grew up in a family of actors and began his stage career in Belfast at a repertory theater. He played Wolfgang Winkel in The Perfect Woman (1949), his first film. He moved to the United States in 1957 and often performed on Broadway, creating the role of Merlyn in Camelot in 1960. He received the Clarence Derwent Award in 1959 and an Obie Award in 1964 for A Month in the Country. His most notable American film role was Rudolph the headwaiter in Hello, Dolly (1969), and he also appeared in Kelly's Heroes (1970) and The Boys From Brazil (1978). His television work included Mission: Impossible, Serpico, and Star Trek. Later he worked in German and Austrian theater, including at the Burgtheater in Vienna from 1991, before retiring in 2000. He died in 2019.
