Cristina Raines
Biography
Cristina Raines is a former American model and actress whose career centered on 1970s horror and period films before she turned heavily to television. Born in Manila and raised in Florida, she moved to New York for modeling, signed with Ford Models, and was urged by Eileen Ford to audition. Early credits included a lead in Hex (1973) and the television film Sunshine. She played a folk singer in Robert Altman's Nashville (1975), then led the supernatural chiller The Sentinel (1977) and appeared in Ridley Scott's first feature The Duellists (1977). On television, she had a major part in the miniseries Centennial (1978) and starred on NBC's Flamingo Road from 1980 to 1982. Her later screen work included the horror anthology Nightmares (1983), the Quo Vadis? miniseries, and the surfing drama North Shore (1987), her final film. She retired in 1991 and became a nurse specializing in kidney dialysis care.

About the name
Raines changed her professional surname after agents kept pushing her toward Spanish-speaking parts because of her Hispanic features and surname, though she was not fluent in Spanish.
First role
Around 1970, Raines moved to New York City and signed with Ford Models. Executive Eileen Ford thought she could be an actress and urged her to audition, so Raines reluctantly tried out for a lead in the horror film Hex.
A change of course
Raines appeared in several films for Universal Pictures after signing a contract with the studio, but she later admitted the deal "became very detrimental" to her career and stopped her from doing numerous films.
