Claud Allister

Biography

Claud Allister was an English actor whose screen work stretched across more than seventy pictures released between 1929 and 1955, on both British and Hollywood productions. Born in London and educated at Felsted School in Essex, he first worked as a clerk in a stockbroker's office, but he left that life to pursue the stage, making his debut in 1910. He toured English repertory theaters in minor roles until World War I, then served as a subaltern in the army. After the war he returned to acting, performing in the West End in Bulldog Drummond. In 1924 he traveled to America, where he initially appeared on stage. His film debut came in 1929 in The Trial of Mary Dugan. In 1934 he appeared in London's West End in the historical play Mary Read. He died in 1970.
