Chad Stahelski

Biography

Chad Stahelski is an American stuntman and filmmaker who began training in martial arts as a boy in Palmer, Massachusetts. He studied Jeet Kune Do under Dan Inosanto and taught at Inosanto's Los Angeles school, and he competed in kickboxing and mixed martial arts, becoming one of the first American fighters in Shooto. He moved into film as a stunt double for Keanu Reeves on The Matrix (1999) and later coordinated the martial arts stunts on its first two sequels. With David Leitch he co-founded the action design company 87Eleven in 1997, and he was a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on Ninja Assassin (2009). He made his directorial debut co-directing John Wick (2014) with Leitch, then directed its three sequels. He also did second-unit work on Birds of Prey and appeared in The Matrix Resurrections (2021).
